Hello, I’m Simon, and welcome to Elemental Mountaineering’s website.

I am a Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and active member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors. I’ve been working in the mountains nearly all of my adult life, as an instructor, guide, senior instructor and head of outdoor education. Most importantly though, I am a passionate and active mountaineer and climber in the Lakes, Scotland, Wales and beyond in the Alpine regions, Arctic Norway and Morocco.

Based in the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, we have excellent sport climbing, ‘trad’ climbing, mountain scrambling ,and mountain walking on our doorstep. Locations include Striding Edge of Helvellyn, the Langdale Pikes, Scafell, climbing on the magnificent faces of Gimmer Crag, Black Crag or for the more daring, climbs on the North Face of Scafell and Scafell Pike or the famous Napes Needle on Gable Crag. In the winter the steep slopes of Hevellyn, Great End, and Scafell provide an excellent introduction to the skills necessary to enjoy the winter mountain environment. Later in the winter season we move our base of operations to the mountains of Scotland to provide excellent winter mountaineering and hill walking opportunities.

Whether it’s your first introduction to rock climbing or mountaineering, you’re a seasoned campaigner and want to develop your skills further, or you’re trying to push your grade we have something to offer.

I care passionately about the standard of instruction and guiding on offer, all courses are provided by myself or other members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors personally known to me.
